We celebrated Christmas by making decorations for the Christmas tree and then decorating the tree. Christmas stories were read and Christmas games played. Everyone, contributed a festive snack to the Christmas party and while the children were eating, presents were put under the Christmas tree. The party finished with Carol singing around the tree, recieving presents and the giving of cards, calendars, etc. made by the children to the parents.
The children had presents off the Saint and wore their Saint hats the whole day to work and play. This is a Dutch custom, where by the Saint, who comes from Spain, celebrates his birthday on the 5 December and delivers presents to the children of Holland. It is customary for the children to put out a shoe the evening before, along with the usual carrot for the horse, etc and when they wake there should be a gift in its place.
The dads´ enjoyed a morning snack with the children and other parents. They spent an hour working with the children, leaving with their fathers´ day gift and card.
